Boundary conditions

a condition that is required to be satisfied at all or part of the boundary of a region in which a set of differential equations is to be solved.
Example: Expertise is necessary to apply the appropriate BOUNDARY CONDITIONS and forces to the model to extract the relevant data.

Boundary surface

A boundary surface is defined to be either the mathematical envelope between a charged region and empty space, where the density fields associated with the region vanish.
Example: the mathematical envelope between two electrically different regions in contact, where the density fields associated with the two change abruptly.

is the proportion of thermal radiation emitted by a surface or object due to its temperature.
Example: the relative power of a surface to emit heat by radiation : the ratio of the radiant energy emitted by a surface to that emitted by a blackbody at the same temperature.

Energy balance

In establishing an energy balance, all sources of thermal energy are put on the input side, and all items of heat utilization on the output side. When determining an energy balance, you need to know what energy is being transferred in and out of the system. An energy balance is a consideration of the energy input, output, and consumption or generation in a process or stage.

Heat flux

Heat Flux is the rate of heat energy that passes through a surface. Depending on the exact definition of heat flux, its unit can be expressed as either W/m2 or W.
Example: Heat Flux depends on the temperature difference and the thermal transfer coefficient.

Heat generation is nothing but conversion of one form of energy(like electrical, chemical or nuclear energy) into thermal energy(heat energy) inside a solid. The temperature of the solid increases during this process.
Example: A system undergoing an exothermal reaction raises the temperature of the system. The system here is the solid and the thermal energy increase in it is called heat generated.

Insulation

the act of covering something to stop heat, sound, or electricity from escaping or entering.
Example: The high temperatures of 650°C - 700°C may still be enough to damage INSULATION and anneal the conductor though.

Internal energy

An energy form inherent in every system is the internal energy, which arises from the molecular state of motion of matter. The symbol U is used for the internal energy and the unit of measurement is the joules (J).
Example: Internal energy increases with rising temperature and with changes of state or phase from solid to liquid and liquid to gas.

a numerical value indicating the relation between a change in temperature and a simultaneous change in some other property (as solubility).
Example: The strain gauge(s) must also have a minimal TEMPERATURE COEFFICIENT, to reduce the effects of temperature fluctuations, along with a low linear expansion.

Thermal conductivity

Thermal conductivity is a physical property of materials that measures heat conduction capacity.
Example: the degree to which a specified material conducts electricity, calculated as the ratio of the current density in the material to the electric field that causes the flow of current. It is the reciprocal of the resistivity.

Thermal diffusivity
noun
Thermal diffusivity is the thermal conductivity divided by density and specific heat capacity at constant pressure. It measures the ability of a material to conduct thermal energy relative to its ability to store thermal energy. High diffusivity means heat transfers rapidly.
Example: Thermal diffusivity (a with the unit mm2/s) is a material-specific property for characterizing unsteady heat conduction.

Thermal symmetry

The thermal symmetry boundary condition is a mathematical expression of this thermal symmetry.
Example: A heat transfer problem that is symmetric about a plane, line, or point is said to have thermal symmetry about that plane, line, or point.
